Web testing II

Firebug

We will install the Firebug plugin for Firefox and we will explore the main features of Firebug, by going through the tool's tabs. Please refer to the tutorial from the Firebug documentation page.

Later edit: meanwhile, support for Firebug as a separate plugin as been discontinued, and its features are now available as part of Firefox Developer Edition developer tools. For details on how to migrate from Firebug to the set of Developer Tools available with Firefox Developer Edition, please see the documentation.

Tilt / 3D view

A plugin allowing the user to visualize web pages as 3D objects, for a better understanding of their layers etc, later part of the Firefox developer tools.

Download Firefox 46.0 from here. Follow the instructions from the Mozilla 3D View documentation and play around with visualizing the 3D structure of several web pages.

Later edit: although Mozilla discontinued 3D View feature from Firefox (since version 47 on), as it was hard to maintain, Microsoft has recently added it to the set of Developer Tools from Edge, see instructions here on how to reach it. Install the latest version of Edge, if you don't have it already, and try to visualize several web pages with 3D view and understand their structure etc.
